Ridvik: Mommy what is the meaning of hot?
Mom: What do you think it is?
Ridvik: Well, there are 2 meanings to it…
Mom: Ok, it is spicy hot and then it is warm hot.
Ridvik: No, then there is actually 3 meanings. You left the other one…
Mom: puzzled look… What is it?
Ridvik: You know the sexy hot… when people say you are hot…That kinda thing….
Mom: Duh!!! Isn’t it a little too early to talk such things… I don’t think I knew these kinda things when I was in second grade….

scene : Ridvik needs to write a sentence that begins with ” if I could ”
Ridvik : If I could I would be rich.
Me : Duh! you can’t write things like that…
Ridvik: If I could I would have 10 books.
Me : you already have 10 books.
Ridvik: Mom, I am just saying…
Me: No. You need to speak the truth always…
Ridvik: well, that’s what I said to begin with.
Never thought teaching a first grader would be this difficult…

Conversation bet. me and Ridvik last night:
Ridvik: Mommy, I have a secret to say.
Me: What is it?
Ridvik : xxx(He gave the name) has a crush on me…
Me: W..h..a..t ? What’s a crush?
Ridvik: El o vee eee
Me: Oh! That’s not good…
Ridvik: She has crush on me. I don’t.
Me: Well, that’s good news! Then tell her that.
Ridvik: No I can’t. We were friends before and now she crossed(Crosses his hands against the chest and imitating like crossing) her mind and
now she cannot change that.
Me: Did you talk about this at school?
Ridvik: No. I did not Because she said it is a secret. And its not good to hold secrets with family. So, I’m telling you….
I expected this to hit me a little later. Isn’t first grade a little too early to be having such discussions?

“Amma , the chutney that Amuthan uncle made was very hot. But, I did not tell him.”

“I wanna be a teacher when I grow up so I an give time outs for all the kids who misbehave”

“When I am at school I miss u and daddy. But, I don’t miss Surya. When ever I want to play with him, I close my eyes and he will come in my mind and play with me.”
